LA CIUDAD QUE ODIO Y QUE NO PUEDO DEJAR DE AMAR

"The city that I hate and I can not stop loving"

Hace un tiempo estuve de viaje por tierras Libanesas, un país desconocido por todos nosotros y donde ahora tengo grandes amigos. La situación se complico y viviendo en mi casa de Chipre desde apenas poco mas de 200 kilómetros de distancia parecía que todo seguía igual que cuando yo y mis amigos merendábamos en el centro comercial de la zona cristiana donde el domingo posterior a mi aventura estallo una bomba.

Some time ago I was traveling trough Lebanese lands, a country unknown to all of us and where now I have great friends. The situation was complicated and living at home in Cyprus from just over 200 miles away it seemed that everything was the same when me and my friends were eating at the mall of the Christian area where my a Sunday after my adventure a bomb exploded.

Amor y odio

“La ciudad a la que odio y no puedo dejar de amar” es una frase que me la dijo la madre de una amiga mía tan solo unas horas antes de marcharse a Beirut para visitar a la familia. El Líbano es un país al que a pocos de nosotros se nos ocurriría ir a visitar, principalmente, por la cantidad de noticias exageradas y algunas veces falsas que nos llegan.

Love and hate

"The city that I hate and I can not stop loving" is a phrase said to me by my friend's mother just a few hours before leaving for Beirut to visit family. Lebanon is a country that a few of us would occur to visit mainly by the amount of exaggerated news and sometimes false reaching us.

Ahora ha llegado el momento de hablar con propiedad, después de haber tenido la suerte de haber andado por calles y convivido con su gente.

Now is the time to speak properly, having been fortunate to have walked the streets and lived with his people.

Es un país con una belleza extrema, único –pese a todo- donde podremos movernos de la playa a la montaña en apenas una hora; pero que desde siempre ha sido envidiado por los países vecinos entre otros motivos por su perfecta posición estratégica; y por eso muchos de esos países se alegran en el momento que el país se desestabiliza tan solo para intentar aprovecharse mas de ellos.

It is a country of extreme beauty, unique -despite everything- where we move from the beach to the mountains in just an hour, but that has always been envied by neighboring countries among other reasons for its perfect strategic position and that's why many of these countries are happy at the time that the country is destabilized only to seek advantage over them.

Ciudad nueva, bombardeos viejos

Beirut es una ciudad muy nueva como consecuencia de la guerra civil que sufrieron, pero con una riqueza cultural que muchos de nosotros deberíamos envidiar.

New Town, old bombing

Desde el atentado del primer ministro el 14 de febrero del 2005 en pleno paseo marítimo de Beirut, el Líbano esta en una situación política bastante delicada, la presencia militar era enorme pero no eran mas que hombres armados, y que a la mínima te obsequian con una sonrisa.

El aeropuerto es perfecto para todo aquel que vaya a visitar el país, de fácil acceso y en pocos minutos te encuentras en el centro de la ciudad, la mezquita de Rafic Hariri, característica por su cúpula azul y que a veces se confunde con el cielo, el paseo marítimo y el paisaje espléndido de la ciudad desde las montañas que la protegen escuchando de fondo el murmullo del canto en las mezquitas como si fuera una banda sonora.

The airport is perfect for anyone who is visiting the country, easily accessible and within minutes you are in the city center, the mosque of Rafic Hariri, characterized by its blue dome and that is sometimes confused with the sky , the promenade and the splendid scenery of the city from the mountains that protect background listening to the murmur of the singing in mosques like a soundtrack.

Hospitalidad inigualable

Uno se siente como en casa, la gente es muy hospitalaria y casi todo el mundo habla inglés y francés como mínimo, así que es fácil para cualquier turista desenvolverse por la ciudad.

Unique hospitality

You feel like home, the people are very hospitable and almost everyone speaks english and french at least, so it's easy for any tourist walk around the city.

Es un lugar muchas veces olvidado, que nos parece muy lejano, que muchos temen sin motivo, pero que con pasar tan solo unas cuantas horas en un avión contemplando las nubes podremos ver, sentir, y aprender cosas que jamás olvidaremos, y conoceremos a mucha gente que te robarán el corazón con tan solo una mirada, igual que me ha pasado a mí.

It is a place often forgotten, that seems very distant, many fear for no reason, but to spend only a few hours on a plane watching the clouds we see, feel, and learn things you never forget, and we will know a lot people who steal your heart with just a look, like it happened to me.
